Today, we visited Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It was so cold! There was a guy selling hats and gloves who was very happy to see our shivering group, and he unloaded several hats, chasing us down and continually offering lower prices on additional items. We saw this police vehicle, and I had to get a pic for Russ. Today is Kevin’s birthday, so our group celebrated at lunch with a cake for the birthday boy.

The cakes aren’t nearly as sweet as we make them in the US. This one was so pretty! There are street vendors everywhere selling food, but none of us have been brave enough to try it so far. Sweet potatoes are a popular snack item here. Many people have stands that sell them. These fruit kabobs were gorgeous! We went to the pearl market this afternoon to do some shopping.

Our next stop was the airport to take a plane to Nanjing. This is where we will meet Caleb!

Our entire group is unfortunately still suffering from jet lag. Most are running on fumes right now with just 3-4 hours of sleep at night. It’s crazy waking up at 2:00 am and being wide awake. Hopefully we left jetlag behind in Beijing! We all need a good night’s sleep because tomorrow, we meet our babies!
